Castell Y Barri

Composed by Dan Dennis.

Castell y Barri was commissioned by the Vale of Glamorgan Brass Band as part of its Post-Covid-19 rejuvenation.

This commission acknowledges the near 50 years of music making the band has given to the Vale (the band was esrablished in the 1970's to lead the Barry Carnival) alongside the creation of a march in tribute to the "Welsh March King" - history in the making.

Whilst the local Welsh bands have adopted many of the Marches by TJ Powerll as their own, titling the march Castell y Barri provides a nod to TJ Powell’s legacy. This new March is a lively March that would be perfectly suited to both the bandstand and contest stage, featuring both modal and atonal harmonies to create an uplifting, yet tradition sounding work.
