Diversions on "Calon Lan", by Tom Davoren

Based on the Welsh hymn tune by John Hughes. The work looks away from the traditional method of embellishing a chosen theme. Instead, it works extracts of tonal and rhythmic elements of the theme, and generates new music, or "diversions", from these excerpts. A link to the original form is intended through appreciation of traditional values of virtuosity and lyricism in the colo line.

Diversions on Calon Lan received its world premier at the Winston Churchill Hall, Ruislip, on 26 March 2009.
